Wear safety goggles or glasses
that include side protectors or a full-face shield.

Wear hearing protection that is suitable for the level and noise that you
are exposed to.

Make sure that all guards are
in place and properly adjusted
and the access panels are securely fastened.

Adjust the blade guard to no more
than 3-4 mm or 1/8th. to 1/4 inch above the material being cut .

Ensure that the blade tracks
correctly and runs freely in
and against the upper and lower guide rollers.

Ensure that the blade is properly
tensioned.

Ensure that the width of the band-saw
blade being used is suitable to the size of the material being sawn and
the radii of the cuts being made are generally wide for large blades and narrower
for small blades.

Hold stock firmly and flat on
the table to prevent the stock from turning and drawing your fingers against
the blade.

Keep hands braced against the
table. Use a push stick
when you remove cut pieces from the fence and saw blade or when putting
your hand close to the blade.

Keep your hands on either
side of the blade - not in line with the cutting line and the blade.

Keep the floor free and clear
of clutter, obstructions and shavings.

Make release (relief) cuts before
tight curves or when doing scroll-type cuts.

Ensure that you have adequate
lighting at the band saw.

Do not use excessive force when
pushing wood past the blade.

Do not back up stock
from the blade while saw is in motion or if the piece binds or pinches the
blade. Stop the saw instead.

Do not stop the band saw bade
by thrusting the stock against the cutting edge or blade or the side of
the blade immediately after turning off the band saw.

Do not leave the band saw
running unattended.

Turn off power and make
sure the machine is stopped before leaving the machine.

Never make adjustments to
the band saw while the machine is running.

Disconnect power at the breaker
when changing blades.
